Lecture Description
Although dental trauma often occurs in most populations, traumatized anterior teeth are a big concern before and during orthodontic treatment. Most patients want to save their traumatized teeth and keep them esthetic. We should consider several factors related to managing traumatized teeth- patient¡¯s age, time of the traumatic accident, types of trauma (tooth fracture, periodontal injury, etc.), previous endodontic or restorative treatment, and current tooth condition. Moreover, the type of orthodontic treatment and amount/direction of tooth moving force would be related to the tooth condition. Orthodontists and endodontics aim to preserve the traumatized anterior teeth in healthy condition. However, intimate communication and follow-up may not always be possible before and during orthodontic treatment. This lecture will help clinicians to understand the endodontist¡¯s perspectives on this topic. During this lecture, the following subtopics will be discussed.
-Types of dental trauma frequently occur in the anterior teeth of orthodontic patients
-Endodontic procedures and complications of the treatment
-Prognosis of endodontic treatment of the traumatized teeth
-Clinical scenarios-communications between orthodontist and endodontist
-Key points during treatment planning In addition, possible endodontic interventions, including nonsurgical retreatment, apicoectomy, replantation, and transplantation, will be introduced to preserve the traumatized anterior teeth with root resorption and/or periapical pathosis.
