The Influencing Factors of the Perceived Orthodontic Treatment Needs in Adult Korean

The population of orthodontic treatment in adult Korean is constantly increasing. An assessment of orthodontic treatment needs of adult Korean helps to orthodontists at this hard economic times. The aim of this study was to examine the factors influencing the perceived orthodontic treatment needs in adult Korean.
A total of 2,321 subjects, composed from 19 to 64 years old in Korea, participated in this survey. For this survey, a new measuring tool was developed for analyzing the awareness and knowledge of Korean adults toward orthodontic treatment. The survey was composed of questionnaire related the general characteristics, the status of dental hygiene, the perceived orthodontic treatment needs, the perception and willingness of orthodontic treatment, and the psychosocial impact of dental aesthetics. The data was collected by specialized survey company using internet-based survey. Statistical analyses were performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS version 21.0 for Windows).
In this lecture, the factors influencing the perceived orthodontic treatment needs in adult Korean will be presented.
