Surgery First Approach with Clear Aligner Technique

Dr Sandra Khong Tai is Clinical Assistant Professor in Orthodontics at the University of British Columbia and the University of the Pacific in San Francisco.
Dr Sandra Khong Tai has treated over 3,600 cases with Invisalign clear aligners. She is the author of the textbook “Clear Aligner Technique”. (Quintessence Publishing 2018) which has been translated into 12 languages. She has authored a chapter on Clear Aligner Treatment in the 7th edition of Graber’s Orthodontics (Elsevier 2022) She is also a reviewer for several orthodontic journals, including the AJO-DO, Trends in Orthodontics (APOS) and Journal of Craniofacial Research & Orthodontics. Dr Sandra Khong Tai is a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics and a member of the North American Orthodontic Clinical Advisory Board for Align Technology. She is involved in several research projects on clear aligners

Lecture Description

In this presentation, Sandra Khong Tai will discuss how to treat orthognathic surgery cases with clear aligners. Case selection criteria for a surgery first approach by using a surgical simulation in the digital treatment planning software will be discussed, together with appointment sequencing, post-surgery fixation and a comprehensive surgical protocol. Collaboration with the oral surgeon for orthognathic surgical planning for surgery first cases will be outlined in a step by step detailed protocol.
